A Meaty Wedding

For my ideal wedding, I would leave the ceremony up to my beautiful fiance, and as such I won’t address that aspect here. I would, however, take control of the reception. The background for my idea is that I always think it seems awkward at a wedding when the bride and groom are greeting people after the ceremony. Unless you’re family or a super-close friend of the couple, you never know whether you should hug or shake hands are if you are even allowed to touch the bride. The groom always looks uncomfortable when greeting the bride’s friends and family that he doesn’t know that well, and the bride always seems tentative when greeting the groom’s friends and family that she doesn’t know that well. At my wedding, this awkwardness would all be relieved with one ingenious (or so I like to think) idea. One thing that both my fiance and I are passionate about is meat; we love it! Chicken, steak, pork; it’s all good! As such, I think that at our reception my fiance and I should stand behind a huge grill filled with all varieties of tasty meats. Then, as the guests come through the buffet line, we would serve them whatever kind of meat they requested. As we served people, we would greet them and thank them for coming. Two birds with one stone; the people get fed and we greet each and every guest, all in one smooth motion! And hey don’t worry, we’d have some lettuce or something available for anyone choosing to abstain from meat. I didn’t even mention the fact that the people would be honored and blessed by the act of servanthood we would display by serving the guests on our own wedding day. Let’s be honest, wouldn’t you feel honored when the cute little bride slaps a huge juicy t-bone on your plate and says “thanks for coming!”? Now that’s a wedding that I’d be pleased to attend. - Dustin Musser
