Wedding Dresses
Even before she’s found the perfect location or even the perfect man, most every woman has dreamed of the perfect dress. However finding that perfect dress can be tricky, so don’t get discouraged.
For most brides, the search for the perfect dress begins in bridal magazines and on the Internet. Begin by finding a few ideas that you like and looking in stores to see if your dress is already a reality. Don’t be too set on a certain style or idea—make sure that it works with your body type and looks as good on you as is does on the model. Many brides find that a dress that didn’t look as beautiful on the hanger looks amazing once they’ve tried it on ... or quite the opposite. Unfortunately, dresses seen in magazines aren’t always readily available in stores or their price tags have way too many zeroes for your budget. If you simply must have that wedding dress seen in a picture, hire a seamstress to bring your dream into reality.
When working with a seamstress, make sure to stay involved in the creation of your dream design. There are many stories of brides who thought their seamstress would create their perfect dress, only to find several months and several hundred dollars later they weren’t happy with the result. Make sure you are very hands-on with your seamstress and work with her each step of the way to make small adjustments rather than one big overhaul. If possible, have a back-up dress that can be returned if your original dress works out but that you’ll be happy to wear on the big day if, for some reason, your seamstress didn’t quite catch the vision of your perfect wedding dress.
The best of all possible situations is to find a dress that fits perfectly without alteration. Besides adding additional cost, altering the dress might change more than you think. If minor alterations are necessary, make sure you are working with a skilled tailor who, again, has the same vision for the gown you do.
Whatever else happens in your search for the perfect wedding dress, it’s important that you feel beautiful when you’re wearing it.
